Sport Bild are reporting that Glock has parted company with the team with immediate effect. Surprise if true and leaves a door open for someone like Senna and his millions I suppose. Marussia could be in real trouble next year for results what with Chilton being a complete rookie...

So where to for Glock? Force India? I doubt it since he has no sponsor money from what I can tell.

here's whats on sport Bild's website

Quote:
Racer Timo Glock and the Marussia Formula 1 team will be separated according to a report by "Sport Plus" on Monday by mutual agreement. "I have the Marussia F1 Team to experience three great years. We part in friendship, "Glock is quoted.

Works BMW driver Dirk Muller tweeted the following to Glock,

https://twitter.com/muellerdirk/status/ ... 1483670529

Could he be off to drive away from F1 completely? Can't say he'd be missed given how anonymous he was last season, sorry Timo.

DTM then for Glock I'd imagine. Buemi says he has good news very soon but I doubt he'd leave a Red Bull testing job for a Marussia race seat.

Buemi to Force India then?

Shame Glock has gone, shame Kovalainen has gone. Money talks, talent walks in 2010s flavour F1, which is a great pity considering there is more money in the sport than ever.

Tbh Glock and Kovi failed to impress against their team mates all that much in 2012, they only have themselves to blame for being pushed out of the sport where they know money is the key.

Can't see Buemi at Force India either.

A Shame but hardly surprising. He really did seem totally demotivated and disinterested this year. Probably why his performances weren't up to scratch.

Marussia are rumoured to have been unable to pay him. He was pushed out of F1, by someone who can pay for a drive whilst he can't.

Quite right about Timo and Heikki in 2012: I was also very surprised that they did not do better against their team-mates, considering their experience.

Me too. I thought both cases would be a walk over for both of them. If Marussia are having money troubles them the best thing they can do is get rid of an under performing Glock and get someone with some cash in. I don't think you can do much worse than Glock did last season if I'm honest. I mean Pic managed 12th in really tricky conditions in Brazil, nearly getting that 10th WCC place, Glock languished down in 16th. In 6 F1 seasons Glock only beat one team mate, Pic and even that was only just. F1 isn't losing a great talent I'm afraid, just an average driver who gave it a go.

I don't see it as pushed, if someone decides to leave a sinking ship

Timo had a valid contract for 2013 & 2014
They decided to part ways, mutual.

Ya know...Marussia isn't a bad place to be with the addition of KERS this year. If you gave them 3-5 tenths worth of KERS last year, they're in Q2 easy. Hmmm. So much excitement for a sunday.

I'm also thinking Petrov might get the seat. It's almost too natural of a tie-in, that's the only reason I'd doubt it is that it seems too logical at this point.

But if Petrov and Caterham talks have stalled and there's no extra money he can raise for that seat, I could see him opening communication with Marussia rather than waiting for Caterham to decide to go with another offer. Petrov brings a lot of popularity and money, plus there are likely promotional benefits for Marussia in having a Russian driver.

And he's dropped into a seat at a late date before, so its nothing really new.

What? Marussia were usually about 2-3 seconds away from q2 and about 1 second behind Caterham. Half a second does very little for them at all!

Where weren't they? I took a quick sample of 5 races. I didn't think they would have a 2 second fluctuation in pace.

Monaco is the closest I can find they were 1.5 seconds away from q2

If we don't see him again in F1 i personally think it's a bit of a waste of talent. Showed glimpses of class for Toyota but it was a questionable decision to join Virgin (Marussia) over Renault. Hope it doesn't haunt him when his career in motorsport is done!

Question now i suppose, who will Marussia get? Maybe a lifeline for Kovalainen? Or Kobayashi? Surely they will want someone with a bit of experience as i really don't see Chilton+another pay driver pushing them forward at all

I imagine likewise petrov, a Russian owned team with a Russian driver probably on a 2 year deal with Russian sponsors in the first Russian gp seems to make sense and will really get the interest going for them.

Glock ruined his career by stating "i am committed to Marussia" every year that makes team bosses didn't want to approach him. I guess his depart is due to tired of being a backmarker scoring 0 point and never had a chance to race properly, ie having fight with many teams or attempt to make some good overtaking.

I said it before and I will say it again. Glock was pretty much done after this time with Marussia because think, he went from steady points and possible podiums to nothing and being at the back of the field struggling. Timo is and was a solid driver, but he was beaten soundly and I mean soundly by Jarno Trulli in 2008 and 2009. Well, honestly guys his teammate record is nothing to be amazed by at all. A solid driver, but on the level of other "solid" German drivers with Sutil, Heidfeld, and Rosberg. Timo was underneath Sutil imo, but he's nothing to sneeze at.

He impressed when I watched him in Jordan in 2004 and Champ Car though.

If, I was Petrov and his management, I would be watering in the mouth with the opprotunity with a Russian team, Russian driver, and a future Russian GP? It all sounds great because with this opprotunity Marussia has a LOT to gain. I mean if Putin gets behind with more sponsorship for the team with Petrov aboard and monies recieved from Chilton. Their budget could grow by a nice margin for this coming year and 2014. If I was Petrov, Buemi, Senna, and others. Go for this seat because this team could grow quite a bit within the next couple of years.

Glock was strange one for me. He always looked as solid driver in Toyota delivering what car can. Most of the times he was around his team mate in finishing order when Trulli was still considered as a fast driver.
But for some reason he was always one of those drivers who went unnoticed. Maybe being a German didnt help when truckloads of other drivers from your country are winning championships and doing well with top teams over last decade. But it was hard for anyone to enthusiastically say they are Glock fans. He was rarely in news, or media. Rarely gave an impression of driver I might be interested in knowing more about. Almost as if he was anonymous in F1 grid. That generic driver who does not do too badly, but does not light world on fire, going about their business as if it is some chore they must do.

Not thrilled to see him go, but its little bit of "meh" for me personally.

Yeah after 3 unimpressive years with Marussia and not good record vs teammates I don't see a reason why he would be missed in F1. The same for Kovalainen.

I was also hoping if Glock would have made the jump to Indy.

Petrov could be the 1 who can fill the void.

I never saw what the big deal was about Glock. Neither Solid nor impressive are adjectives I would use to describe him in any capacity. In F1 he was at best ok. And although a "few" people hinted at the notion that Trulli was fast, I've never found him to be anything special. I also found him to be just ok as he spent most of his career duking it out for position somewhere in the midfield. If that's the measure of a great driver over a 14 year career, well then we will need a large 3-ring binder and a few reams of paper to include all the other greats that belong on such a list.

Best of luck to Glock but he is one of those guys who had their shot and it's now time to allow a young up and comer to try their hand at the bigtime.

Glock had some great moments in his career but always seemed to fade back into obscurity the rest of the time.

Could have been more, but I think the move to the back of the grid was too much for him and Heikki to handle. You could say pay drivers pushed them out, but in reality, if they'd kept their motivation up and beaten their teammates with the ease that I'm sure they both could, then the teams would have pulled out all the stops to keep them...assuming they weren't poached by bigger teams.

I think both drivers went to the back with the assumption that they'd do a season or two there then be picked up by a midfield or top team again, but F1 is a ruthless business, and as soon as you disappear from the public eye your career can be as good as over.

I also think that Glock and Kovalainen (and Trulli) were lucky that Caterham and Marussia emerged to offer them a lifeline in F1. However I don't think any of them have showed that they deserve a second chance in a better team.

Trulli was a super qualifier in his early F1 years, especially in 2000. He could put that Jordan in places in didn't belong. His first half of 04 was fantastic too, he did have the upper hand over Alonso much of the year and then France happened and Flavio never forgave him for letting Barrichello slip by at the final corner on Renault's home track for a podium. I seriously do believe Flavio made Jarno's life a misery after that to the point he had to leave.

Author:  the incubus [ Thu Jan 24, 2013 2:37 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Timo Glock rumoured to have departed Marussia...

For a short time, in qualy he was good, not super. You have to remember that at that time, engines were monster powerplants and all sorts of cool systems were in place to help cars and drivers go faster. As well, Trulli was very young then and as with most people, your bravado and testicular fortitude diminishes with age and he seemed to age rather quickly. Then in 2004 it seemed for a bit that perhaps he might've found his old form again but it turned out to be that it wasn't so. His performance spike in '04 was likely the car being of the same caliber as some front running teams but then they were out developed and he once again faded. From there he was give waaaaaay more opportunities than I feel he deserved. Flavio might have made his life impossible bit when you're out on the track in a strong car, you should look every bit the part and he very rarely did. I know F1 is harsh and I agree that drivers generally fall victim to finding themselves in not so competitive cars, but a few of Trulli's cars were really good.

Amon, very accurate to say he and Glock were extremely fortunate that the new teams came in when they did or he'd have been shown the door much sooner. But I'm on the fence with Heikki. Hekkie had a really great opportunity on McLaren but his stints with Renault were in cars that were very difficult to drive and the Lotus/Caterham, well… It is what it is. He bested most of his teammates convincingly with the exception of Petrov, a driver who many agree isn't half bad himself. The one reason I feel really bad for Glock and Kovi is that in the last 3 years they were NEVER in a fair fight. The lack of KERS boost to contribute to their cars' speed might have proven to be the difference because in all actuality, those cars, especially the Caterham weren't very far off considering. Guess we can include Mark in that respect as well!
