I just found this video of Alonso at Catalunya 2011.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h31A4vuhtRI

0-100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds.

But he was using a V8, and with the weight of 790KG (minimum car's + driver's weight 640KG and fuel 150KG) and KERS.

So is there any other record that faster than this? 2004 or 2005 maybe?

i thought alonso's renault in 2006 could do 0 - 100km/h in 1.7 sec?

I would have expected the 2005 cars having traction control and V10s to be the best.

Random fact (IIRC): In James Allen's book I read that Michael Schumacher's start at Jerez 1997, 0-100 km/h, took 2.92 seconds and was at that time the fastest ever recorded.

The only thing is, the 2005 cars had grooved tyres.

What about turbo cars from the mid-80's? Those had +1,500bhp in qualifying trim and were on wide slicks. But I guess the massive turbo lag they had would mess up the results though... :/

I would have though there would be a big deficit in tyre technology.

I would suspect it would be the Brabham BT46 of 1978. The famous fan car that only raced once, and withdrawn by the owner (Bernie), to be the only design with a 100% racing record. Wheelspin would not be a problem because the fan sucked the car to the ground at 0 MPH, allowing 2G starts.

But since it came and left in just one weekend, 0-60 data was never found.

This is what Wiki says.

Acceleration
The 2006 F1 cars have a power-to-weight ratio of 1,250 hp/t (0.93 kW/kg). Theoretically this would allow the car to reach 100 km/h (60 mph) in less than 1 second. However the massive power cannot be converted to motion at low speeds due to traction loss and the usual figure is 2 seconds to reach 100 km/h (60 mph). After about 130 km/h (80 mph) traction loss is minimal due to the combined effect of the car moving faster and the downforce, hence the car continues accelerating at a very high rate. The figures are (for the 2006 Renault R26):[citation needed]
0 to 100 km/h (62 mph): 1.7 seconds
0 to 200 km/h (124 mph): 3.8 seconds
0 to 300 km/h (186 mph): 8.6 seconds*
