Well last time he didn't have the best conditions and still set a competitive time. Not checked, but iirc Button managed the same time with a 'hot' lap to Lewis on a 'damp/oily' lap.

As much as I'm looking forward to it, I'd much rather see some new blood taking part - Maldonado, Grosjean or Perez for example.

Meh. Been there, done that. Nothing new is it. I'd like to see them get away from F1 drivers. Get Loeb on, or one of the NASCAR guys, or McNish, or Toseland. Anyone but an F1 driver. There are other motorsports out there.

Yep him or Hirvonen/ Solberg would be a real coup for the program IMHO

I'd like to see more pro drivers take part, but other than F1 there aren't that many high profile drivers who would be worth booking.

A few shortcuts =/= cuts once.

Lewis was booked to go on a few years ago but it was raining so didn't bother filming.

I'd like to see Loeb on it, the guys an absolute legend, and as cool as which helps!

So saying he took short cuts is Hatred? even after you post the evidence to back me up?

No it was merely a pointing out that it wasn't a representative clean time. :uhoh: :uhoh:

Think you have to remember that Top Gear isn't really a motorsport/cars program anymore and has not not been for some time it's more an entertainment program hosted by three guys who like cars, it's audience isn't really for the petrol head more for those wanting to see the big challenges that they do and all the antics that they get up to.

That's why it's so popular and why guys like Hamilton will get invited back rather than guys like Loeb being invited as chances are that most of the audience have never heard of Loeb or know little of him.

No one cares about the times. It's just a bit of fun on a silly show that doesn't take itself seriously never mind it's guests. Who cares if corners were cut? Are you going to haul up to the stewards for it?

other than Rossi and Loeb, how many of those guys do you reckon the average person will know? a large percentage of F1 fans don't watch other motorsports. some of those won't have been around long enough to remember Villenueve or Montoya. when you add that not all the people who watch Top Gear are F1 fans, I can't see any of these guys giving the show a big enough ratings to be worth booking. why get Jason Plato when some bloke In an upcoming Movie will bring in extra viewers, and maybe some advertising money too.

What I'd prefer to see is either team bosses or ex team bosses on there to see how they'd fare on the track. EJ vs JH would have been great viewing.

They have a global audience, must choose people that folks have actually heard of. Their live show and festivals have plenty of representation from non-F1 professional drivers.

Mark Webber and Jamie Whincup headline the upcoming Sydney event, with other Aussie motorsport personalities.

I'd love them to get Gronholm on. Firstly, despite what stats or anyone's opinions might say, he's my favourite ever rally driver and the most entertaining for my money. Secondly, he's quite funny in his own right.

But seriously, I hope they've at least tried for Loeb - the F1 board should be more "pro-drivers" rather than F1 specific.

Alternatively, i'd love them to send Nico and Lewis or something just to add some spice.

Maybe Max and Tom Chilton could go on as a double booking. Tom has already been on their "racing stupid vehicles" feature a couple of times. Throw in a bit of sibling and cross formula rivalry and that would make a good show.

I'd like to see Ant Davidson on there (no idea if he already has been or not).
Out of the list someone else gave

Loeb, Solberg, Rossi, Toseland, Montoya, Villenueve, Jimmie Johnston, Dario, McNish, Shedden, Plato (5th Gear isn't on now), Neal, Prialux....

I only know Loeb, Rossi, Montoya, Villenueve, McNish, Shedden, Platon, Neal... well to be fair there's only 5 I don't know :P But still, I cant imagine interest would be that high in getting some of them on there. Not many motorsports have big followings to begin with, F1 is propelled into the celebrity status, and as such goes with the "Star in car us normal folk can afford" segment. BBC wants celebrities, people that will be of big interest, and Nascar drivers isn't going to cut it for them sadly. Most of the sports don't get much of a showing, if any, on the BBC anyway, so highly unlikely they'll feature them on Top Gear.

Loeb would have to be first choice. Would love to see him top the sheet.

Maybe Bob if he can drive a manual right hand drive.

It's a shame it wasn't going on years ago. Would be interesting to see the "Tarmac specialists" like Panizzi giving it a go.

Oh and the original Stig and not Perry McCarthy ;)

Must say, you'd have thought they'd have both Stig's (was black Stig around at the same time as the SiaRPC/F1)? Unless, Ben Collins was faster than new Stig...

Loeb would beat them all. Probably wouldn't even need to be bone dry. That man is a machine.

I mean the original Stig. He pre-dates Top Gear ;)

Nah there was a youtube video that showed a few more, came up on my recommendations a while back.

I just can't be arsed looking for it and getting into a fairy cakes fight over it . Mainly because Lewis couldn't see the markings because of the conditions.

But sure as usual point out something that doesn't make Lewis Lord God of all things on the track and instantly you are a hater :uhoh: :uhoh:

I think the main problem here is perhaps that some posters seem to feel that they must find something to belittle the driver currently being discussed for no better reason than their dislike of that driver and often the comment made doesn't improve the thread direction at all but just lowers the tone ... I would like to point out that this comment isn't directed solely @ Johnston but to all posters from all the respective fan bases that post in a similar manner .... I would apologise in advance for offense caused by my criticism but sod it, live with it ... Rant over :)

Brilliant show, can't wait for Lewis's episode

Top Gear is a BBC show so no adverts (other than for the BBC of course).

you guys want lewis, rossi, etc on the show ?? i want kate beckinsale, kate upton, diane kruger etc in the reasonably priced car ! lol

seriously though, a special episode of race car drivers from all the world doing some challenges would be cool. would be hard to get them together because of their varying schedules.
