Was Byrne not brought in last year or the year before as an "Advisor"?

You'll need to stick this through translate

True, but if he is working full time now on the 2014 car, it will be interesting, Byrne vs Newey. Can't really wait for that

Byrne was great in the team at Ferrari during the Schumacher days but in sorry it is even more aero orientated than it was then and when it comes to interpreting aero regs there is one man who does it best and he is employed at red bull. Byrne though will have the benefit of working with the v6 and having far more data to incorporate it and the new regs for 2014 into a competitive car. Red bull will probably get the Renault engine before Renault powered teams as they say red bull are their main focus but its still not quite the same as making the engine from scratch and having it ready, Ferrari have already got their engine tested and ready according to reports so no reason they cant already be well underway with a team on the 2014 car.

Pat Symonds reckons the one part of the Brawn-Mercedes team that is missing and responsible for their lack of top performance: Rory Byrne. Symonds wrote that Brawn was a great organiser of the team, and strategist, but it was Byrne who did the designing.

Byrne vs Newey? With BYrne designing, Benetton and Ferrari did 'alright' against Williams (1994-5) and McLaren (1998-2006) when Newey was there. I realise no car is a one-man item, but key people like Newey and Byrne have that essential ability: the overall perspective/view of the whole car to make sure all works together.

Byrne too old? Not if he maintains his enthusiasm and fire. Rory was a workaholic, his only complaint ( heard by me in 2003) being that he had difficulty finding young engineers who were prepared to work long hours as he did!

Roll on 2014 as posters wrote above.

Yep, people often seem to forget how big Byrne's role was in the Ferrari fairytale. It will be very interesting

If this is true, next years battle will prove to be very interesting indeed. And then theres also the development race.

Newey has to work on this year's car. Byrne can focus on next year's directly, so I would consider a Ferrari advantage there

The next two seasons are going to be very interesting. This one to see who reduces development in favour of next year compared to those who keep going, and next year for new regs and designs. ESPECIALLY if Byrne is back.

Considering the Ferrari bosses have already announced the 2014 car is being prepared by a totally different engineer team than the one who handles the 2013 car (so 2 split engineer teams) the news kind of makes sense. Byrne would make a perfect choice to lead the 2014 development team.

Pretty sure Newey isn't very happy about this, the south-African can usually put up a fierce competition.
