What they didn't mention is they have decided to use the W03 again and switch all development to the W04 for 2014. The door won't open for another year

Its not really a launch, just a photo. The real launch is Monday, in Jerez I guess.

That's a cool concept, but why put sidepods on it with no air inlets for the radiators? No point in sidepods otherwise lol

Nice livery too.

Side pods = survival shell for passing crash tests

Sidepods aren't part of the survival cell. Its the cockpit and fuel tank structure.

True, particularly with Bridgestone tires. Retro-chic.

Strange they wouldn't bother at least making a photo of the car and posting it on any site. Failure to launch. Good thing they don't work at Cape Canaveral.

When an impact occurs the side pods crumble this absorbing force, this lowers the force the survival shell actually receives

Yes buy the cell and crash absorption areas are seperate things, both needed.

Old livery was more elegant. Surely now they are black and silver arrows.

hmm I am pretty sure I have seen 2013 side impact test of some team and the super tough structure was on the inside of the side pod, not on the cockpit it self.

IIRC. They have the survival cell but the whole side pod is tested to make sure it acts properly as a crumple zone.

The survival cell can take a 250 tonne impact on its own, without sidepods. Check out the layup of the materials on the outside of it. I think the F1 site has a pretty good break down, or you can look at the appendices to the tech regs for diagrams and specs.

Now I know servers can crash but surely they could have provided a pic or two for the major Motorsport websites. At this rate they are going to be panned in the European press on Sunday.

Thats correct. Also to make sure no part of it ends up IN the cockpit.

Well, if Sauber and Ferrari could provide photos, leaked or not leaked, just before the launch...
Hamilton sure got a good start to his campaign.

And just to further fairy cakes on Merc's attempt to get the media spotlight today, RoGro announces he's going to be a dad.

Man, do I hate this media manipulation, trying to get attention...just like Raikkonen did that last year, you know, with the " I will announce my future in a couple of days" press conference...and it turns out he's announcing some deal with a Finish cloth maker or whatever...it's down right disrespectful for Merc fans, if you ask me. And no sh*t intended this time.

Im convinced Bernie told him to have a baby to instill some sense of self preservation and stop the crashes.

Oh well, at least they're consistent in their mistake.
Probably, with all this new management, they don't know who to pin the blame on.

They're liable to get a lot of double-talk for this blunder, anyway.

Site loaded a half-opened door just now, and a lot of darkness inside...I think I can see a shapeless...something..., it could be a car or it could be Yeti or Bigfoot as well, I can't make anything of it yet.

Right click > zoom in. Do it couple of times and you see nose, wing , wing pylons and front tyres.

Damn...this shizz is still going?

I left it, had my dinner, watched a film and consumed some beverages and still no new Merc.

At least Twitter is entertaining!

Thanks funkymonkey, now I'm beginning to see a modesty plate. Strange nose too, kind of bent in the inside.
Oh well, better than nothing, at lease we got something for today. Sidepods tomorrow, exhaust on Monday, DDRS Tuesday, it's going like butter. German clockwork.
