So every year I consider placing a bet on the drivers and constructors championship, however I forget until after Australia, and then the main betting sites have closed this option. With testing about to begin, and I know that they testing may not show the true pace of the cars, do the odds come down on the drivers once the testing has began?

Currently the top drivers are given the odds of for the championship as:

5/4
Sebastian Vettel
11/4
Fernando Alonso
13/2
Jenson Button

12/1
Kimi Raikkonen
14/1
Lewis Hamilton
16/1
Mark Webber

16/1
Sergio Perez
40/1
Felipe Massa
50/1
Nico Rosberg

I've put £25 on Jenson, and a £5er on Lewis.. The latter I am praying I don't regret ;)

I have a hunch for Alonso, although it could turn out like the past 6 years.

I cant belive Massa is longer odds than perez. though at those odds might stick 20£ on it.

Out of those two, I'd hope for the former, you stand to win more.

Don't bet usually and probably won't start now. Shame as I had Seb for the 2010 title, partly hope than anything to take youngest crown from Lewis, mid-way through 2009. I wanted it in 2009, but after the first half it looked unlikely, then started to come back but Button clung on. Had I bet at the end of 2009 I think the odds I saw were about 16-1.

I would like to say Alonso, even if I'd prefer him to leave Ferrari, but that Red Bull will be tough to beat. A few iffy races this year though and he could snatch it as Lewis won't be likely to win much, so Fred can hang around and wait for his chances.

Kimi is good value.

Blows my mind how little faith the bookmakers have in Nico Rosberg.

Don't talk to me about F1 betting, I'm still kicking myself for not sticking a tenner on JB winning in Brazil. He was 10/1 after FP1! Probably the only time last season that I fancied a go, and I bottled it.

Massa won't be allowed to beat Alonso

Perez will be allowed to beat Jenson!

that may be the case - but in terms of outright ability there is no question in my eyes.

Anything could take alonso out of the picture this season - look at spa this year he came close.

I want £40 on the Hamster as an opener but really not happy with the odds, almost certain I had 14:1 last year pre-season at Mclaren

Yanbon, the main betting sites keep the WDC open all year? The odds just fluctuate after each race. I don't know if testing results affect start odds though.

Edit, wrong, checked statement, it was 13:2 last year :

22 Feb 12 / 16:27 Stake Drivers Championship 2012 - Winner – Lewis Hamilton @ 13/2 - £40.00

I think the odds are a little harsh on Webber, I'd say he's got a better chance than Hamilton or Raikkonen.

I'm not really a betting man but if I had to put a bet on now I'd go Alonso. I think Vettel is more likely to win the title but 5/4 isn't a good return, especially when so much is unknown at this stage.

Weird the difference between Hamilton and Nico.

I would have like Hamilton 20-1 and Nico 28-1.

If I were a betting man I'd say Button, good odds.

Its a betting site, bookie has to balance the books, Lewis was probably much higher but people placed bet at those odds so the bookie had to lower the odds otherwise they would lose a fortune if Lewis did manage to win it.

No real value in that market at all. Jenson in the only reasonable bet and Kimi the best value, it is best to bet here after a few races. For example Vettel was 6/1 at mid season last year. Alonso 20/1 after Australia

Odds are never about what a given drivers actual chances are. They are about creating a balance in the money bet between each driver in order to cover each of the possible payouts. At first it's just the oddsmakers educated guess as to where the bets will go. Then as the bets start coming in the odds are adjusted to reflect the actual balance of dollars being bet.

Strange, I used William Hill too and jinxed Hamilton all through the season betting on the WDC, is it the Driver -> WDC you are refering to?? And are you UK based?

Couple of my others with William Hill last year, all WDC bets :

29 Sep 12 / 16:12 Stake Drivers Championship 2012 - Winner – Lewis Hamilton @ 8/1 - £10.00

18 Sep 12 / 15:37 Stake Drivers Championship 2012 - Winner – Lewis Hamilton @ 4/1 - £10.00

16's on Webber is a steal...as long as the new RBR car lacks some rear end grip.

What are the odds on Ricciardo? Say for top 5 in the championship...?

Had Ricciardo last year on for Monaco, never know there!

25 May 12 / 14:23 Stake Monaco F1 Grand Prix - Race Winner – Daniel Ricciardo @ 500/1 - £1.00

Might just bet that for every race this year...after all, it's only £19 and I gotta funny feeling ;)

Closer than that I'd say, hang fire though as the W04 looks as predicted to be pretty lame, I feel the 14:1 odds were a precaution should it have been a rocketship, expect much better odds from now on in

Well no pressure then, the WDC is open to you all season long :)

No hurry initially, it appears the new Merc hambone chariot sucks donkey balls, like the driver, so I suggest hang fire.. Worrying thing is Melbourne... If the "fail kid" fails, expect the odds to plummet nicely, if he has a lucky spike like the 2008 WDC, expect to be screwed over with silly odds. I shall go £30 on the 14:1 before all the **** takes place. Expect him to bomb out as per usual though, don't bet your shirt...

If you bet live in play and have a decent F1 knowledge and are very quick to place the bets you can make good money from F1. It is very dynamic and things change very quickly. For example last year I won massively on Massa at Monaco topping Q2 - 35/1, I saw him leave the pits on soft tyres to make sure he made it into Q3. Placed the bet within 15 seconds of seeing that.
