Some pics now up on Williams' twitter page... a little confusing, if its last year's car Pastor is sitting in, they've changed the nose... the step is gone.

It appears to have a new livery (reminds me a little of the '10 car with a bit more white than last year's) so I am thinking its the new one for show purposes even if its not going to be run.

No new car for Williams this week, but it has covered up the step in the nose on last year's machine"

it is the old car, plus vanity panel and some other innovations.
The livrery is new.

The real car will hit the track only in Barcellona.

Hate it. The front of the car looks horrible!

It looks like a little homage to the walrus.

Also, front wings are getting ridiculous. Weren't they meant to have fewer elements?

I think the front end looks amazing. Especially from the side.

Livery is meh like it typically is for Williams.

The side profile of the nose makes me want to weep.

Those winglets at the back of the side pods are very interesting.. Wonder if we're looking at the first 'to be copied' innovation this year
Sad the livery is the same but I think it looks very, very fast.

Less than a month to Australia now!

I rather like it, less sleek in design, more an aggressive looking car.

The nose on that rendered image above is way shorter than the image of the actual car.

The nose looks like the one on the ferrari, though much less appealing elsewhere.

Beautiful! Best looking car on the grid together with the Sauber imo.

I like it. Bit bored of the livery, but it's not an ugly livery by any means.

I'm intriged by the nose, it seems far shorter in relation to the front wing than any other car.

They made the nose short and blunt so that the impact from Maldonado's crashes will be less on the other car.

Interesting, that's the first time I've seen rear wing end plate design replicated on a front wing end plate, neat

From BBC and Gary Anderson:

Quote:
"The front wing pillars have been moved forward, so they lean back towards the front wing. That's a good idea - it gives the airflow coming off the pillars more time to settle down before it gets to the turning vanes under the chassis.

Lots of similarities with the ferrari. Short, high and wide nose, very tight and low rear end and hot air exits at end of sidepods.

Williams have a very unique exhaust solution
Image
Image

The back end of the car is minimized to the extreme
Image

The front wheel nuts are vastly different than the rear
Image
Image

The outlet from the radiators is extremely small, just a shallow hole and some shark gills

Judging by the lack of significant sponsors on both cars, they need the balls to try something new, otherwise they wont be lasting much longer!

Good bloody start isn't it.

FIA have told Willams and Caterham that their exhausts are illegal.

It is incredibly tight, I reckon it would give red bull a run for who has the tightest rear end :)

Williams have gone full on icebreaker with that front end, looks like it's built like a brick s**thouse!

On a more serious note, that insanely packaged rear makes me wonder if there wouldn't be an advantage reducing the wheelspan? Or are there set regulations on the minimum length of the car? They could probably take half a metre off the length otherwise, which would presumably make it a lot more manoeuvrable... :?

I love the livery and that finless car looks insane. I can't believe how much rear-end packaging has improved in just the last five years. The trend certainly runs contrary to the way my rear-end packaging has developed, I'm sorry to say. :(

Thats a good design by Couglan. Hope they are able to challenge Sauber and Merc And maybe win a couple of races too.

Go back and REALLY take a careful gaze at last year's Sauber. The bodywork was actually about as short as this Williams initially but as the year wore on they extended the upper portions of the bodywork a bit as I suspect they found the openness of the shorter rear end created turbulent vortexes that perhaps cost them a bit of speed.

Spec A C31: Image
Spec B C31: Image

^^^ That's Kobayashi at Interlagos last year.

This year's C32 is similar to the C31 in its last iteration with some revisions which means that underneath it is still the same tight package, but with the addition of their compact side pods I'd venture to say they have the tightest package in all of F1. I hope they do well.

As for this Williams, at first I was like Oh no, but the more look at it the more I like it and I eventually saw how similar it is to the Ferrari. Goes to show how livery can play a vital role on the perceived aesthetics of a car.

I didn't realise the spec A C31 was that tight, I hope that Sauber and Williams are more regular visitors to the podium this year.

Been saying it since the first time I saw the C31… Sauber have upped their game and have weaseled their way in my heart as one of my favorites but a great deal has to do with how Peter swooped in and put up his own money to save the team, which in turn inspired the members to work that much harder. The C29 looked all sorts of wrong in every aspect and they performed like it and the C30 showed signs of advancements in the right direction and the C31 blew me away. It's the only Platypus-Nosed car I actually liked a lot. The Williams' rear end however looks a bit too open (I think takes away from how good it could ultimately look) and underdeveloped but Williams are a technical powerhouse so I'd imagine they figured out a few things over last year's car, though I would not be surprised to follow Sauber's lead on extending the rear to better and more fully control the air as far down the chassis as possible.
