So, Australia was a mixed bag for Kobayashi.

Q1 went well, Q2 not so much as apparently he wasn't able to get heat into the tyres (also why did Sauber just opt for 1 run?)

Race was difficult due to damage, but I'm happy that Koba's tenacious driving paid off with a sixth place. It was bad luck for Perez that his tyres let go on the last lap and also the contact with Rosberg. Bring on Malaysia where I think the Sauber's characteristics could see them doing very well indeed.

I have no idea how he went from 9th to 6th in the last lap. Truth be told, I still have no idea what happened in the last lap! But he used his strategy and pace well for a good haul of points, Sauber currently 3rd in the constructors! Well done Kamui :)

Disappointing qualifying today for Kobayashi :(

6 tenths slower than his team mate in Q2. Koba has been faster than Perez in all practise sessions though, so there's no reason to think a good race is not possible. A points finish is still on the cards.

Fingers crossed!

Some further info regarding Kamui's bad qualifying:

Some folks at Autosport have been following his twitter this evening and it has come to light that apparently the rear roll bar was broken so that the car was behaving strangely since FP3 which obviously impacted his qualifying pace.

They will be allowed to replace this in time for the race, however, this leaves a question mark over the car setup as it was done based on the broken roll bar. Fingers crossed that it will not have too much of an impact on the race tomorrow and he has a good car under him to perform well.

Finally, Kobayashi is able to show his pace and the pace of the car. ;)

Now, let's pray for him to drive a great race!

Really pleased for Kamui, I think he's a great driver and he must have needed that boost after Perez's last race. :D

His time was even more impressive when you factor in that he set it fairly late into the session, because the track temperatures were dropping quite significantly!

I hope Sauber keep the strategy sensible. If they kept it sensible with Perez last race he'd have had an extra 5 seconds to play with, but they stayed out for no reason at all other than the glory of leading the race. Which is silly because he was quids in to win it anyway!

Well, Sauber is not exactly a team accustomed to winning, maybe this is one reason. Like the high air up the mountains, maybe they get some calls mixed-up, it will probably take them some more races like this to get accustomed to that feeling of being a front-runner and smooth their strategies accordingly.

I could understand that, but races like Hungary last year were ridiculous, and to an extent Perez at Aus this year. They look so silly when the tyres go off and they have no defence. As I say, I could understand it if it was bucking under pressure, but it was every race last season and just got silly.

This doesn't really make sense, because it was the same team that was BMW Sauber a few years ago, and they were challenging for podiums and wins regularly with Kubica...

But are they the same actual people, as a whole, as a living team? I suppose that part of them remained, but the BMW guys surely are out, and...
Not to mention that it's also about morale and momentum. Ligier was also once a great team, used to winning, but when they started regaining some shine back in 96 (with the Monaco win) and 97, as Prost, they did all sort of stupid mistakes.

I don't see why it wouldn't be...just because a team is re-branded doesn't mean the personnel changes at all. Certainly not the low level workers who make up the bulk of the workforce; sure perhaps there would be management change, but apart from that I just can't see the bulk of the team being any different.

Another excellent race for Kamui. 5th, ahead of Mercedes and Mclaren's on genuine pace. Encouraging stuff.

Great result in Spain. He finished ahead of many big fishes.

He matured to the point where Sauber seems to be to weak to handle his qualities. I hope he will find some top seat for the next season.

Kamui drove very well on Sunday. Some of the passes he did were superb!
He didn't really seem to get noticed on Sunday though... never heard anything from him post-race on the BBC. Not sure about Sky because I don't have it but only got about 2 sentences out of PlanetF1's Winners & Losers section (hoping for a bit more from the Team-mate Wars section).
Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?
Hoping it's not just me being a little bias!

According to the Japanese media, his oil started to leak on his second Q2 run and he was running on his own oil that's why his S3 time was slow. Kamui believes he could fight for the top 3 alongside Maldonado and Alonso, if the car had no oil leaks in Qualify....
At the race his straight speed was a bit slower than others so he had to take some risk to pass at corners.
He tried and got it. Brilliant.

5th from 12th on the grid is another excellent result for Kamui. Such a shame about his pit stop in Silverstone, he could have 2 excellent finishes back to back.

Driving very nicely, keep it up.

A very strong drive from Kamui today and a much deserved fifth place. Let's hope he can qualify a bit higher next time out and perhaps do even better.
