We always hear that team A has a bigger budget than team B therefore they have a better car and can develop better into the season.

Is there a definitive list anywhere of what budgets each team has and how much they spend?

A good question - the article here helps shed some light on things, albeit I don't think anyone really knows the truth behind the figures!

There is one set limit they are not allowed to go over, is it 50Mil?

Other things about money though also helps that they can choose what drivers they have and not just get "Pay Drivers", then there is financial stability. Some teams are stable for a season maybe two but there are those that are stable for good.

I don't think the teams publicise that kind of information, most takes on team budgets are just estimations based on some facts, like Red Bull won't agree to a budget cap, suggesting they're spending well over it, which is a lot :-P

No. There is no budget cap in place, there were plans for it to happen mid 2009 but as far as I'm aware, none is in place

There a Book called Formula Money authored by Chris Sylt (Pitpass.com) and Caroline Reid. This is considered The Ultimate guide to all the finances related to F1. Its used by companies if they want to sponsor or may be buy a team. It gives detailed report of How much exposure all brands get financially how much it cost to host a grand prix how much the teams make their budgets, how much CVC makes the tracks make. Basically everything even remotely financial related to F1.

I think people gather good ideas and probably get reasonably close to what teams spend (probably within a few million) but to get an exact figure is hard, Mercedes for instance has a ridiculous amount of engineers martin brundle put it best they seem to have a head technician for each part of the car. However red-bull seem to be the ones pumping most into their team over recent years.

i also guess its hard to decide what is included in a budget? Do we mean yearly operating budget or all accounts for instance Ferrari are building new facilities currently should this be included? Its more an investment than operating cost same with force indias £50m injection

Try a little more. In 2011 Red Bull spent 245 million Euros.

Here's an interesting article on the worth of some teams. http://www.forbes.com/sites/chrissmith/ ... able-team/

Jimbox01 has provided a lot of information on team spends over the years. Hopefully he turns up and participates in this thread!

Heres something I found of interest. For Mercedes. Bulk of the development work for 2012 Car was done in 2011 hence these figures. Figures in Pounds
242.1m spent for title campaign
116m spent on the Engine Division
52.4m spent on R&D
They hired 78 new staff across both divisions taking the head count to 989
60.1m spent in wages
The engine arm made a profit of 4.9m from the sale of engines (Mclaren & Force India)
they lost 10.6m after tax.
More to follow......

That is just a crazy amount of money. Scary really. and for little or no return in the championship.
