Why should he be on the scrap heap? He loves driving and someone is willing to give him a drive. I doubt he will do very well but if he enjoys it and he has a car to drive what does it matter?

This.

Sounds like he fancies a seasons' racing doing something or other, and this came up. He's probably doing it out of sheer enjoyment, rather than 'desperation' to find a race seat. Good on him I say, hope he has an absolute blast.

Not a scrapheap, just a different discipline of racing with some very talented drivers and he's had no trouble getting (good) drives elsewhere.

I think it's great how many different series he's been giving a try since he retire from F1 and why not? Off memory I can recall forays by JV into NASCAR, Le Mans and V8 Supercars. Now this. Hope he enjoys himself and doesn't get hurt.
