RULES:

For the sake of the servers, we ask that the length of the photo on the longest side be no more than 1200 pixels - this can be set when uploading images to picture hosting websites.

The contest ends at 23.59 UK time on June 30th, and voting opens from then until 23.59 on July 5th.

Only entrants may vote, and must submit their top 5 choices to me along with a topic idea for next month - winner's choice carries - and NOT to one of the other mods - they will not oversee the competition unless I am unavailable for any reason.

Only one photo is permitted per member, and may be changed at any point until the deadline. The photo has to have been taken by the member posting it.

Members may not vote for themselves, and since not voting gives you a higher chance of winning, it will be penalised by a deduction of 15 points [points are allocated as 15 for each first-placed vote, 10 for 2nd, 6 for 3rd, 3 for 4th and 1 for 5th] to redress the balance, unless for any reason the member in question is unavailable during voting, in which case alternative arrangements should be made in advance.

5 points are also on offer to the member who contributes the most creative interpretation of the subject matter, at my discretion where appropriate.

Please remember indecent images are subject to the same rules in this thread as the rest of the forum.

All that remains is for me to announce the title. Therefore the June 2015 Planet-F1 Forum photo competition title is:

LIFE ON A FARM

Narrowest of margins... I would think so! I figured myself for dead last!

BTW, the intent of my suggested topic was a bit broader than just farm life, as I figured rural life, i just worded it poorly. I hope the that our Mod will allow the clarification, as some of you may not have access to a farm.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks for the clarification, Blake. I'll leave the title as it is now, because some will already have seen it and it's not fair to move the goalposts. However, we do reward creative interpretations of a theme so I'm looking forward to this one!

Well done Blake - nice one :)

I currently live (until Wednesday) on a commercial fruit farm, so 'Life on a Farm' is perfectly OK by me, you really don't need to clarify or expand the brief if you don't want to. ;)

Farm Waste
Apples - the ones that didn't make it to the supermarket shelves.

Image
Tons upon tons upon tons of farm produce is dumped every year, either because it didn't meet the supermarkets' spec, or it simply didn't sell.
The stuff that does sell is transported all over the world, and then another chunk of it gets thrown away by the supermarkets/retailers/wholesalers.
Finally, we buy it from the supermarkets, keep it in the fridge for a few days, and throw at least 25% of it away ourselves.

I personally think the whole system is bonkers, but then if we didn't have Guatemalan blackberries (or whatever) on the shelves in January, the farmers and farm workers in poorer countries would either have no jobs, or they'd be growing 'other' crops.

Congrats Blake.

I think I can work with this farm theme. :D

I have a great idea for my next shoot, I just have to find an appropriate scene to shoot.

Thanks, bourbon
:D

A few shots to get me at least "on the board". I leave tomorrow for a road trip and hopefully I will get a few more opportunities to share the rural life.

gravel road, hay bales, sorting pens, ditch grass and a storm............ yup, life on the farm!

"Watcha lookin' at, Mister?" As I sat on the highway taking some shots of cattle in the pasture

Played around a bit with this livesstock loading pen

I thought the "big & little" barns were kind of fun...

Lastly... for this post anyway, just a small section of a batch of bales for feeding cattle

Well done lat month Blake, and I love the shots above - that's a proper American barn and mail box, you'd never see anything like that in the UK.

I rarely get to go out to the country so can't go looking for a picture opportunity, but as I also rarely post anything here I'll go for good old lets get a few votes for cuteness idea and put up one from a country walk in a maize field a few summers ago. Not a very good resolution as I took it on an old phone, but I like it :)

Actually, your pic sums up farm life wonderfully... Of course, we would call it a "corn" field.... just to be difficult.

Is the little cutie yours?
;)

Yes, it was a couple of years ago so she was 4 at the time. I think we only use corn in the UK as a shortened name for the sweet corn verity of maize.

I think that I like the drama with this one, so please consider this to be my entry...

I grew up on a farm and live in a rural county, but I can't find any photos I feel really fulfil the brief of "LIFE on a farm"

However, I know PF1-Mod likes creative interpretations of the theme. So I'm going with this:

The end of the day in the LIFE ON A solar FARM:
