Prince was a musical f*cking genius.

Chyna is a weird one. I remember her from 20 years ago primarily. I don't follow wrestling like I used to, but I knew she'd had a fair bit of mental health and drug addiction issues in the last decade or so. Found it odd that none of the mainstream news sites I saw explained why she was the 9th Wonder of the World though. I'd have thought that would have raised an eyebrow from most folks who didn't watch WWF in the late 90s or aren't familiar with Andre the Giant.

Victoria Wood, who I remember mostly for Dinnerladies, random bits and bobs of her TV work and I distinctly recall he performing "Let's Do It" on an episode of Parkinson.

Man, is 2016 worse for celebrity deaths or is this just a case of me having a short memory? It really does feel like a famous name I know is dying once a week or more. Real bummer that I expect someone will be adding another obituary post to this topic in the near future.

The NFL app on my phone just buzzed and woke me to tell me that Ali died. Placid had already posted here when I popped on. I hope it speaks a lot that an american football app thought so much of Ali that he merited a push notification. They did it for Prince, though he had some NFL ties from rocking the **** out of a superbowl perfomance. Ali was simply Ali.

I'm not a boxing fan. I've also drunk a fair bit tonight so forgive any typos or slight inaccuracies. Ali's accomplishment's within the ring are rather lost to me, especially given I was born after his peak. But Ali held the title of likely the most well known sports personality that has ever come. Muhammed Ali had the unique privilege of utterly transcending his sport. This was a guy who was utterly "box office". I really do think that Muhammed Ali will be one of those guys whose legacy will live on for at least a few generations, which is one hell of an accolade.

For anyone to transcend beyond their sport is a huge accolade and something to be proud of. I'll spend some time to at least read his wikipedia and educate myself on his life beyond just being the superstar he was. Unlike many celebrities. the name of Muhammed Ali or Cassius Clay is almost certain to last a lot longer. That is a legacy to be humongously proud of.

Also, 2016, still a helluva year for celebrity deaths. Prince hit me hardest, but Ali I think will hit the widest. He is a truly iconic figure.

RIP.

NEVER FORGET OUR CANINE FRIENDS:Bretagne (Pronounced Brittany) - the Golden Retriever who was 1 of the 300 + canines that responded right after the 9/11 attacks and the last surviving dog was put down due to natural causes. Just 2 months shy of her 17th birthday. The owners Denise and Randy Corliss gave him a special send-off for their services. She also assisted in tornado ravaged sites and Hurricane Katrina.

In this photo, Bretagne pictured with Aid'N (center) and Taser (left) are also service dogs. Just 1 month ago Aid'N succumbed to cancer.

To our 300 +: Thank you.

Another dream to stardom has came to a tragic end after "The Voice" contestant Christie Grimmie was shot and killed by a gunman right after a concert at Orlando. Grimmie was signing autographs right before the gunman open fire. Christie's brother tackled the gunman right before he shot himself in the head. Grimmie was rushed to the hospital before passing away.

Another horrible way to end a dream. Our hearts go out to her family and friends and "The Voice" fans.

3 more deaths are confirmed:
The world of animation is in mourning following the passing of a legend in voice characterization.

Janet Marie Waldo who was well known for her voice as Judy Jetson, passed away at the age of 96 due to in-operable brain tumor that was discovered in 2011. She was also credited for other Hanna-Barbara cartoons such as, Ozzie and Harriet, Shazzan, the Flintstones, Addams Family animated series among other voice characterizations. She was also credited as Princess in her Japan-anime role - Battle of the Planets.

But controversy filled when she recently finished her favorite dialog as Judy Jetson in 1990 for "The Jetsons Movie". However, H-B pulled her out in favor of pop singer Tiffanny for a much younger audience. But the movie became a flop. Her last voice credit was a special appearance in King of the Hill in 1998.

CLOSURE AT LAST:

For 15 years, the family of NYFD Battalion Chief Lawrence Stack were unable to bury their loved one lost in the 9/11 attacks. But they discovered that Chief Stack donated blood for a child going for a bone marrow transplant right before the attacks. and they confirmed that 2 viles of blood were left. That would be enough to finally give the family closure. Lawrence widow Theresa finally received Lawrence Stack's helmet.

Lawrence was 58 at the time of the attacks.

ANOTHER VOICE TRAGEDY.

Just 1 week after Christie Grimmie was laid to rest, another Voice contestant became a victim. This time of gang violence.

45-year-old and a fellow Chicagoan Alejandro "Jano" Fuentes succumbed to the wounds in the head after he was shot 3 times outside his school he owned after celebrating his birthday this past Thursday. There was no motive on whether it was a carjacking of robbery. Fuentes competed in the 2011 Mexican version of "The Voice.

The NFL are in mourning following the passing of the architect of the "46".

Buddy Ryan: 1 of the greatest architects in defense that resulted a 2nd Super Bowl ring succumbs to cancer. Ryan - who also has his 2 sons Rex and Rob - led the Bears defense that allowed 12.5 points per game and also logged in 64 sacks during the 1985 season and a win at Super Bowl XX. His career began in 1961 at the University of Buffalo right after the military and a stint at the Korean War. His 1st Super Bowl win came when he created the blitz as a defensive line coach for the New York Jets. Then he took stints with Minnesota, before taking the position in Chicago as defensive coordinator.

His big break came right after Super Bowl XX when he was named Head coach for the Philadephia Eagles. He then took 2 more coaching stints with the Houston Oilers ( Right before they were renamed as the Titans ), and Arizona.

Our thoughts go to Ron and Rex and their families.

Buddy was 82.

LET'S GO BEARS!!!!!
