Congratulations Jimbox01 for winning last month's competition. Below are the history, rules and topic of this contest.

COMPETITION HISTORY:
SEP12 - SPA - JIMBOX01 - viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3845

RULES:

For the sake of the servers, we ask that the length of the photo on the longest side be no more than 900 pixels - this can be set when uploading images to picture hosting websites.

The contest ends at 23.59 UK time on October 31st, and voting opens from then until 23.59 on November 3rd.

Only entrants may vote, and must submit their top 3 choices to me, and NOT to one of the other mods - they will not oversee the competition unless I am unavailable for any reason.

Only one photo is permitted per member, and may be changed at any point until the deadline. The photo has to have been taken by the member posting it.

Members may not vote for themselves, and since not voting gives you a higher chance of winning, it will be penalised by a deduction of two points [points are allocated as 6 for each first-placed vote, 3 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd] to redress the balance, unless for any reason the member in question is unavailable during voting, in which case alternative arrangements will be made.

I think that about covers the rules, other than to add that indecent images are subject to the same rules in this thread as the rest of the forum.

All that remains is for me to announce the title. Therefore the October 2012 Planet-F1 Forum photo competition title is:

MOVEMENT & MOTION

*Starts looking through my photos*

Edit - Found an image taken at Autosport 2011... think it's either Tiff Needell or Jason Plato at the wheel.

I haven't uploaded any photos to flickr for a while. In fact, I don't even have a Pro account anymore. Hence, when I went through my photos, I couldn't find much. Here's the only one that has any sort of movement in it! It's from Goodwood 2008.

8O Fame at last!!!

Coincidentally I just happen to have one or two that suit the new theme...

@Tufty - you went with the wrong photo, the crash scene was brilliant.

So I gather Jimbox, but you deserved that win!

As for this month's entry... Hmm. Not sure yet. I might have to enter the Autosport one now, and give this one some thought.

Been going through my photos. and will enter once I find a suitable photo. and @Jimbox that was a cracking photo you took for last month. Unfortunately I couldn't enter anything with even a tenuous link to Spa except some photos of Bath Spa tha werent as good as the winning entry.

Didn't enter the last one as I had never been to spa, or taken a photo of a spa

So with the voting do we choose our top 3 or just 1?

Voting - you choose your top 3 at the end of the month.

SDLRob, enchantment25 and specdecible, those are all great photos! Makes me glad I can't vote, I can see myself arguing with myself about which is best!

Don't think I'm going to enter anything officially this month, but wanted to share some of my movement/motion type photos anyway - provided it's OK.

12/10/12 Edit - hope you liked them. :)

Jim, those are fantastic. Some are cool, but a couple are freaking amazing. I don't even know which I like best. The 1/2 second exposure one looks great, the water on the glass thing looks cool and that first Rally gravel one is a beauty too.

I love the rally car and the starling, Jimbox!

I still haven't got anything good enough for this... :(

Don't worry about not having anything 'good enough', chances are the photos you don't think are good enough, other people will love to bits.

Or you could take some new photos... There's movement happening around you all the time, just stick your camera in shutter priority (Tv for Canon?) and experiment.

If you get stuck for ideas, try looking up 'zoom burst', 'light painting', 'long exposure' or 'light trails', they're relatively easy techniques and can produce some very interesting images. But if worst really does come to worst, you could always ask SDLRob to stage another crash scene - with ramps this time! ;)

PS you don't need a tripod for long exposures (e.g. traffic light trails), just a steady surface and the camera's self timer.

To be honest, I see no reason why the original crash photo can't be used?

Makes me laugh every time I see it.

How about adding a little motion blur though.

It's probably fair to say if the chair was still moving a few people would have been concerned for his safety!

Also, while not against the rules, photoshop strikes me as a bit of a cheat... and I can't do it

Besides, it's the result of motion, so there is still the link there :)

My inner child wants to jump in that and drive off stupidly fast. Actually, so does the rest of me. Beautiful shot!

Should have seen these moving, but this was probably the best phase of the formation.

EDIT: There's a photo now :D

Has Jim withdrawn to give the less talented photographers a shot?

I think Jim was abstaining given he chose the topic. An unnecessary gesture, but I can see his point.

I suggested the theme because it's something I like doing, then realised I'd got zillions of photos that fitted it and felt it might not be 100% fair on other people, but then couldn't make my mind up which photo to enter - I’ve been hoisted by my own unintentional petard and crippled by indecision, I don't know what to choose!

I like this photo (even though it's technically not great)

Edit: Just going with this then - still not sure though... :?

Wow, love the duck!

Would it help if we introduce a rule to limit entries to photos from, say, the last 3 months for future competitions?
