Yep! You and the others with that slate had me worried for a lot of the race! I don't have much confidence in Rosberg these days

I wonder how much better I would've been doing if, after suggesting I was simply going to predict Hamilton - Rosberg - Vettel for the rest of the year, I'd actually stuck with that! I've already missed out on two perfect podiums, I think; one from changing that prediction and now in Japan for not making it in the first place!

You'd have 83 points and be tied for the lead of the championship.

Interestingly enough, that actually is the exact points total of the championship leader. Have we discovered jimmyj's secret?

I feel like an idiot each week but I think I've almost done just those picks this season. Maybe every race but for certain damn near. I hate it honestly, I'd love a 3 team podium battle every week.

Had I not switched my predictions in whatever race it was, I would've carried on making that prediction, too. In terms of having a bit more freedom to predict, I'm glad I made that switch, but the competitor in me would much rather be winning (or at least tied for first)!

That's the issue. I go through an assessment each race to determine picks. First is who I really think will get to the podium, and obviously that's been pretty much a bore this year. Then I compare what my rivals are picking and read up on the articles about car development, the weather, who has penalties etc. A few, but not too many long lasting developments this year.

That's essentially what I do over in the Pick 10 competition, although I have a more complex formula I use for assigning projected competitiveness of chassis, driver and track synergy. In this competition however I've basically been playing makeup since the first few rounds, when I lost something like 30 points due to not catching on quickly enough to the fact that Ferrari had leapfrogged Williams. The strategy therefore is usually to pick whatever the 2nd most likely outcome is and hope nobody else did it. Only if the points leaders blink can I make up places by going conservative, after all.

Of course, the 11 points I'm missing from late entries doesn't help either x(

CarlPotter's Top Three Championship 2015: Japan

Image
http://www.decalsmania.com/en/forza-jules---support-jules-bianchi-f1

Normal service was once again resumed in Japan with Sebastian Vettel taking the 3rd spot on the podium. Nico Rosberg recovered from a poor start to the race to finish 2nd behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton who took his 41st career victory equaling the tally of his idol Ayrton Senna.

At last a variety of picks! The bizzare Singapore result meant many posters taking a risk on an unconventional result, giving us an interesting mix of scores. It was those who made the standard prediction of Ham/Ros/Vet who emerged victorious though, picking up a perfect podium for their efforts. jimmyj, GPG, Exediron, Icemanjee1, Fountoukos13 and Peter2673

Results: Japan
1. jimmyj - 14pts
=. GPG - 14pts
=. Exediron - 14pts
=. Icemanjee1 - 14pts
=. Fountoukos13 - 14pts
=. Peter2673 - 14pts
2. cm97 - 8pts
=. coulthards chin - 8pts
3. Saz - 5pts
=. Jenson's Understeer - 5pts
=. mcdo - 5pts
=. robins13 - 5pts
4. Bentrovato - 1pts
=. dislexik - 1pts
5. Mayhem - 0pts
=. Herb - 0pts
=. Black_Flag_11 - 0pts
=. pubpokerplayer - 0pts
=. fatsi - 0pts
=. 78aj - 0pts
=. Lotus49 - 0pts

CarlPotter's Top Three Championship 2015: Singles Standings
1. jimmyj - 83pts
2. GPG - 77pts
3. Saz - 67pts
4. Jenson's Understeer - 66pts
5. Exediron - 60pts
6. Mayhem - 55pts
7. cm97 - 53pts
8. coulthards chin - 50pts
9. mcdo - 49pts
10. robins13 - 48pts
11. Icemanjee1 - 45pts
12. Bentrovato - 41pts (1 Perfect podium, 4 Round wins)
13. Fountoukos13 - 41pts (1 Perfect podium, 3 Round wins)
14. Herb - 40pts
15. Black_Flag_11 - 30pts
16. dislexik - 24pts
17. pubpokerplayer - 22pts
18. Peter2673 - 14pts
19. fatsi - 9pts
20. 78aj - 8pts
21. Lotus49 - 8pts

Not much change in the singles standings as jimmyj maintains his 6 point lead over GPG. Exediron, Icemanjee1, Fountoukos13 and Peter2673 all gain a few places with those bonus points for getting a perfect podium.

CarlPotter's Top Three Championship 2015: Constructors' Standings
1. F1 Mayhem (jimmyj & Mayhem) - 138pts
2. No Limit Excedrin Racing - (Exediron & GPG) - 131pts
3. Force Indian Takeaway - (coulthards chin & Jenson's Understeer) - 116pts
4. Fire & Ice (robins13 & Saz) - 115pts
5. Multi21 (cm97 & Icemanjee1) - 98pts
6. My Heart Will Grosjean - (Black_Flag_11 & Fountoukos13) - 71pts
7. Team 4 (Bentrovato & dizlexik) - 65pts
8. McLotus (Lotus49 & mcdo) - 57pts

What a shake up in the teams standings! A double perfect podium for No Limit Exediron Racing sees them jump into 2nd place just 8 points behind the leaders F1 Mayhem. The battle for 3rd remains close between Force Indian Takeaway and Fire & Ice separated by just 1 point.

5 races left and everything to play for. Russia is up next, will Williams be able to repeat their podium from last year? Or will McLaren be able to go one better than their 4th & 5th finish here last year? (Sorry I couldn't resist  )

I also now have a new goal in the championship. To not be overtaken by newcomer Peter2673, who joined just last race. Yes, that is how terrible my season has gone.

Thanks for the update! A good round for us, for sure. After the HAM / ROS / VET podium costing No Limit Excedrin Racing so much early in the season, it's a sweet irony to be able to use it to climb within striking distance of the front! :D

The actual championship may have turned into a one-horse race, but plenty still to come here. My goal for the season unfortunately is just to hold on to my current position as the leading #2 driver and support my teammate in our bid for the first double of the competition.

Ok that's it. I will now predict only Jean Alesi, Giancarlo Fissichella and Jacques Laffite for the remainder of the season.

Since I'm now so far behind and need to make up points, I'm going to have to go against the grain and hope the tyre choice messes things up for Merc:

1. Vettel
2. Hamilton
3. Rosberg

Congratulations to everyone who was bold enough to go Hamilton - Vettel; I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that nobody had Perez in 3rd, although I haven't checked :D

CarlPotter's Top Three Championship 2015: Russia

Image
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/121314

The F1 circus' second visit to Russia gave us a new podium driver for 2015 in Sergio Perez who took 3rd. Sebastian Vettel came home in 2nd place but it was Lewis Hamilton who took his 9th win of the season.

For us that meant no perfect podiums as nobody had predicted Perez would take 3rd place. cm97 and mcdo correctly predicted to top two spots however and in doing so took the round win with 8 points.

Results: Russia
1. cm97 - 8pts
=. mcdo - 8pts
2. jimmyj - 5pts
=. GPG - 5pts
=. Saz - 5pts
=. Exediron - 5pts

4. Jenson's Understeer - 0pts
