I'm going to try to run a fantasy league here at F1 if there is enough interest. It's not going to be the typical pick a number of drivers, manufacturer, etc. though. I'll open it up to either 8 or 10 teams (probably 10), and we will have a draft. There will be two rounds for the draft, and each owner will get 2 drivers. The draft order will be a random drawing that I'll do if/when the league fills up. The person who picks 1st overall will also have the last pick (either 16th or 20th depending on how many teams). For those thinking whoever gets Hamilton or Rosberg will dominate, this will keep it much more fair. It'll look something like this if there are 10 teams.

Team 1- Picks 1 and 20
Team 2- Picks 2 and 19
Team 3- Picks 3 and 18
Team 4- Picks 4 and 17
Team 5- Picks 5 and 16
Team 6- Picks 6 and 15
Team 7- Picks 7 and 14
Team 8- Picks 8 and 13
Team 9- Picks 9 and 12
Team 10- Picks 10 and 11

The driver who wins the race will get 22 points, second place driver will get 21, and so on and so forth. There will be bonus points for podium finishes as well as starting the race 1-10 on the grid. Once again, I'm not going to weight the points too heavily at the top because teams with Hamilton, Rosberg, and Vettel will run away with the competition because of qualifying and podium finishes. However, those things do deserve a little bonus. I'll figure out bonus points in the near future, but I imagine it will be something like 4 points for a win, 2 points for finishing 2nd and 3rd, and 1 point for starting 1-10 on the grid. Also, there will be a penalty (3-5 points probably) for retiring/not finishing a race.

A lot of things can be worked out, but I think this fantasy league could be pretty fun. It'll definitely be different than the typical fantasy racing game. If you're interested, let me know and we'll get the league filled up and get ready for the draft!

I think it can be if we get some more interest! I'm hoping more people will get into fantasy mode as the season gets closer and closer.

So far, there are five including me. If we can get at least 3 more (hopefully 5 more), we'll get the draft rolling and get this thing set up before the Australian GP in a few weeks.

I'm potentially interested, since it doesn't sound like it would be a distraction from my hopeful title bids in both the Top Three and Pick 10 competitions.

So we have 9 by my count. If we can get 1 more to join, we can get the draft going. It shouldn't take long, since it'll only be two rounds.

So far, here's the sign-up list:

Thrash13
Mayhem
theferret
Jenson's Understeer
Icemanjee1
Fountoukos13
Jezza13
Remmirath
Exediron

I noticed some of you showed interest but didn't officially sign up. So if you see this, let me know if you want in or not. That way, we can get this ball rolling when we get 10.

Just doing some calculations and I'm really curious as to whether anyone picking outside the top 3/4 can actually win. Bonus points being handed out for success (i.e. podiums, good qualifying, that sort of stuff) is only going to mean those at the top will score more points and further distance them from the rest. It would be interesting to take four/five races from last season and apply that points system and see what the balance is like. Although to be honest I'm not sure how you can then bring up the scoring for those lower down on the grid; that would be the biggest challenge.

Maybe award a bonus for a less favored driver to win to keep it even. Or give them a score multiplier if they win, based on odds of winning. Just throwing ideas out there.

You don't score the points your drivers score. You score according to the system 22-21-20-...-1 plus some bonuses that Thrash13 has stated in his starting post.

I don't think it guarantees one of the first three or four to draft will win it because of how I staggered the points. Sure, the guy who gets Hamilton is going to be off to a pretty good start, but they're also going to have the #20 pick which won't get them much. Technically the guy who has the 10th and 11th picks should score about the same amount of points as the guy who gets the 1st and 20th picks. I may decrease the points awarded for a win to 2 and a podium to 1. That should keep things a little closer.

It works like any other fantasy league though. If you pick a guy after 10 and he has a great season, you're probably going to be in great shape. Or if you pick a guy in the top 6 or 7 and he has a poor season, you're going to struggle. It's all a gamble for sure.

One thing that does sound interesting is giving drivers who are drafted 11th-20th double the points for winning a race and getting a podium. They may earn 4 points for a win and 2 for a podium. That should spice things up a little. It'll be more for me doing the scoring, but it may even it out a little.

Edit: Since we have 9, I'll go ahead and do a random drawing for the draft order. I'll just put "random" in for the 10th member, so that person will already have a spot when they sign up.

Well, I'm sure it would absolutely shock everyone if I don't go for Hamilton... but considering I'm probably going to get saddled with Rio Haryanto for my #2, I'm not feeling cheeky enough to pick anyone else.

Team Exediron will select Lewis Hamilton with its first overall pick.

Can you put together a list of the rules as is so far? I think DNF shouldn't be any more than -3..does classified but DNF count as a DNF?

I was thinking there should be bonus points for drivers out-performing their team-mates by a certain margin by the end of the year. With 21 races, if your driver beats their team-mate 11-10, there are no bonus points, but if they were 13-8, 5 bonus points, 15-6, 10 bonus points, etc. This could apply to quali and race.

I'd like to see the full list of rules and a detailed version of the scoring system before I make my first pick. Bonus points and stuff like that might alter who I actually go for.

Maybe add in a bonus for every position gained from where a driver qualifies? That would balance out bonus points for qualifying.

I just wanted to try something different from the normal F1 Fantasy games. I'm going to finalize the rules and post them in the next day or two. It's free and harmless, so if the first year isn't perfect, it can be modified for next season. I definitely don't have enough time to do all the scoring ideas I've read. I want it to be something I can score easily and get updated shortly after races.

We won't be doing anything unless we get 1 more to sign up. Haha

That's fine - I think we would all prefer something that is easier for you to update than something so complex we never actually hear from you again

This may also not come as much of a surprise, but I'll take Sebastian Vettel for my first pick. Provided Ferrari is close this year, it seems the best way to go. Considering that I'll be second last in the next round, gambling on the first round pick seems inadvisable.

Okay, here is a set of scoring for the league. Hopefully I'll cover everything. This is the first season of this kind of league here, so I have no idea how things are going to work out in the end. If we can't get another member, we may have to decrease the league to 8 teams. I'd rather just get a 10th member, but we'll see how it goes. We don't have much time at this point, so we need to get things going.

Positive Points

1st Place- 22 points
2nd Place- 21 points
3rd Place- 20 points
4th Place- 19 points
5th Place- 18 points
6th Place- 17 points
7th Place- 16 points
8th Place- 15 points
9th Place- 14 points
10th Place- 13 points
11th Place- 12 points
12th Place- 11 points
13th Place- 10 points
14th Place- 9 points
15th Place- 8 points
16th Place- 7 points
17th Place- 6 points
18th Place- 5 points
19th Place- 4 points
20th Place- 3 points
21st Place- 2 points
22nd Place- 1 point

Drivers who start (not necessarily qualify) 1-10 on the grid= 1 point

Podium Points For Drivers Drafted 1-10- 3 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, 1 point for 3rd.

Podium Points For Drivers Drafted 11-20- 6 points for 1st, 4 points for 2nd, 2 points for 3rd.

If Driver Improves Final Position 2-5 Places From Where They Start on Grid- 2 points

If Driver Improves Final Position 5-7 Places From Where They Start on Grid- 3 points

If Driver Improves Final Position by 8 or More Places From Where They Start on Grid- 4 points

If a driver retires it's minus 2, but does he score points or does he have to be classified to score? Also what happens in case of DNS?

Do you mind doing one GP of last year as an example? Belgian GP should include all of the examples i think.

If a driver does not finish, he'll get the points for the position he finished. He'll just get a -2 on top of that. If a driver doesn't start, he'll get last-place points plus the -2. If a driver is replaced by another driver before the race, the points will be transferred to that driver.

Yeah, somebody should probably PM Jezza13 if they haven't picked by the end of today... not too much time left before the start of the season now, after all!

I'll PM jezza to see if we can get going. If we don't get a 10th team, I'll just pick for that team as well for the sake of finishing. If we end up getting another owner, they can have that spot. If this league has any life left, we'll have to get rolling quick.

This league is officially dead before it started. Thanks to those who took an interest. Maybe next year...
