Hmmm surely Merc can't be that quick on a power circuit with an old engine, right?

So good result means we all get souvenirs ;)

Only if I get a perfect podium, maybe!

Maybe I'll pick up a championship trophy if I see something appropriate. But don't hold your breath...

I guess no souvenirs for us 😪

Only the discarded can of Heineken I cried into after Alonso inevitably retired...

I picked up a piece of clag on the track walk - that can be the trophy if anyone wants it.

It wasn't a classic (aside from qualifying, which was great and set up unrealistic expectations for Sunday), but it's hard not to enjoy the atmosphere in Montreal. Weather was perfect this time too, which helped!

CANADIAN GRAND PRIX RESULTS

After a week's delay, it's finally here! Rumors that the scores were only posted a week late because of the curator's own pitiful showing are entirely false.

The Canadian Grand Prix of 2018 may not have been the most exciting race, but based on the results of practice everyone expected it to be, and the picks were quite split as a result. Many - including almost every now-discredited pundit expert - believed that Mercedes had more pace than they were showing, and Hamilton was quite a popular pick for the victory.

In one of the more bizarre instances of competition rigging, someone at the Canadian Grand Prix managed to plant a bird in his brake ducts for qualifying - and then sabotage his engine on race day - to prevent that from happening. Instead, Vettel duly took pole and cruised to a relatively unchallenged victory, with Bottas leading the Mercedes charge in second and Verstappen finally putting together a clean race to take third ahead of his teammate.

Nobody managed to assemble a complete perfect podium, but five different entrants did correctly predict the first and third positions. Congratulations are in order, then, for Mod Titanium, cm97, robins13, Mayhem and Mod Onyx!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Place - 6 points
Mod Titanium, cm97, robins13, Mayhem, Mod Onyx

Second Place - 5 points
Black_Flag_11, Jezza13, Jenson's Understeer

Third Place - 4 points
TypingChicane

The Rest
Remmirath, Herb, P-F1 Mod, Mod Blue, coulthards chin - 3 points
Lotus49 - 1 point
Espo, Icemanjee1, TheDamus, Bentrovato, Flash2k11, Exediron, CarlPotter - 0 points

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Individual Standings - Round Seven

Image

Current title leader Mod Titanium extends his lead at the top to a still-quite close four points, with the 2016 champion robins13 now taking second place from Espo, who tumbles a few positions to fifth place on account of scoring no points this round. Mod Onyx rounds out the top three, taking an impressive (and championship-leading) fourth win of the season: together with teammate Mod Blue, Onyx has scored points in five consecutive rounds now.

Below the championship leader there's no real separation anywhere throughout the midfield: less than 10 points separate 5th place from 15th. The story becomes a touch grimmer when you dip down to 16th position, however, as the six poor fools from 16th to 22nd position are all at least five points off the back of the pack. The reigning champion TypingChicane has managed to work all the way up to 18th, while P-F1 Mod scored a modest 3 points and relegated Exediron to dead last once more.

Team Standings - Round Seven

Image

Nothing much changed in the team standings: there was a single change in position, with Crisis in Management jumping Bwoah Steering Wheel for third position. Constructor's Championship leaders Sand Bag'n continue to take advantage of their revitalized 2018 challenger, putting further distance between themselves and the defending 2017 champions Jalopy Racing; their lead has now grown to 8 points.

Only the top four teams are currently enjoying consistent scoring from both drivers, with the bottom five all having a scoring ratio of at least 2:1 between their pairings. All of their second drivers will need to shape up if they intend to mount a serious challenge.

CHAMPIONSHIP PICTURE

Mod Titanium is on a hot streak at the moment, benefiting heavily from a Perfect Podium last time out in Monaco. However, with the wide open nature of scoring this year, it would be hard to call a favorite in the individual standings.

For the teams, 5th-placed Management in Crisis is arguably the team to watch: almost all their scoring to date has come from one driver, but they're still in touching distance of the leaders. If P-F1 Mod can start matching his teammate, they could be the dark horse of this championship.

NEXT RACE

The long-awaited return of the French Grand Prix is up next, and with Paul Ricard being a brand new track as far as these hybrid cars are concerned, there's no form guide to go by. Will that lead to an exciting and open round? Who knows!

I'd like to apologize to my teammate for my shocking run of form. Hopefully, this is where my season starts to turn around with a much-needed Perfect Podium!

Or just points. Those would be good, too.
