To enter please fill this simple form:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1z4a_Fg ... w/viewform

History:
Before 2010 AD: Some guy called kimilandia made a competition where all you had to do was choose drivers before the season starts, after that no effort required as you watch your drivers score points for you. Easy.
2011: I carried this on and we got about 50 users competing was quite close, but then I didn't bother the year after, but I'm bothering again this year....

Rules:
1. Maximum total expenditure 500 pts
2. Only 1 driver per team
3. Deadline: Friday 14th March 0000 GMT (before first practise at Melbourne)

Costs are based on 2013 points scored*:
Code:
Red Bull   Vettel   397
Red Bull   Ricciardo   199
Mercedes   Hamilton   189
Mercedes   Rosberg   171
Ferrari   Alonso   242
Ferrari   Raikkonen   112
Lotus   Maldonado   183
Lotus   Grosjean   132
McLaren   Button   73
McLaren   Magnussen   49
Force India   Hulkenberg   48
Force India   Perez   29
Sauber   Sutil   51
Sauber   Gutierrez   6
Toro Rosso   Kvyat   20
Toro Rosso   Vergne   13
Williams   Massa   5
Williams   Bottas   5
Marussia   Bianchi   5
Marussia   Chilton   5
Caterham   Kobayashi   5
Caterham   Ericsson   5

*Minimum driver cost capped at 5 points.
**If a driver is taken off the grid, for whatever reason, during the season you accumulate the points of his replacement.
***Teams that replaced both drivers in the off season have their driver prices determined thus:
{i} The higher price goes to which of the new drivers scored the higher amount of points in F1 the previous year.
{ii} In the case of a tie, the higher price goes to which of the new drivers has more F1 experience (grand prix contested).
{iii} In the case of there still being a tie, the higher price goes to the older driver.

So you can pick up to a maximum of 11 drivers, some may pick less than that based on how many points they have used up?

Theoretically yes.... but for this year its impossible to select 11 drivers as the current prices for drivers in the top 2/3 teams have too many points.

Thanks to those that have entered so far.

Can the following entrants please revise your selections as you exceed the 500pt budget:
pauldstar Vettel Hamilton Alonso Maldonado Magnussen Perez Sutil Vergne Bottas Bianchi Kobayashi Total Cost 1168
AngusWolfe Vettel Rosberg Grosjean Magnussen Perez Sutil Kyvat Massa Bianchi Kobayashi Total Cost 864
Dark Hamilton Alonso Magnussen Hulkenburg Bottas Bianchi Kobayashi Total Cost 543

Done. I've selected Hamilton, Raikkonen, Sutil, Magnussen, Hulkenberg, Vergne, Bottas, Bianchi and Koabayashi. That should equate to 477 overall, though apologies if I'm wrong.

So just to have everything quite clear; I chose my drivers with a max 500pt quota and when season ends the one who's drivers totalize the max amount of points wins the game?

I have a feeling a lot of people will have very similar predictions... Can't see anyone picking red bulls and maybe a few picking FA

Yes. There are few very cheap and good drivers. I think everyone will pick Kimi for example.

I think I won this in either 2010 or 2011 under my previous username (dbfinch) so I'll put my thinking cap on and enter a team.

I submitted one yesterday.

My general thoughts:

Alonso is overly expensive compared to Kimi from my point of view. I expect Kimi to be much closer to Alonso (possibly even ahead of him) than Massa was, so in terms of cost:benefit it seems Kimi has substantially upside. So I chose Kimi (I think, I have somewhat forgotten). Kimi's good performance also means a punt on Maldonado is too much of a risk imo. Would have been worse if he had contested the last few races where Lotus tended to look very strong.

The Williams pair at 5 points each are both excellent shouts. I could see Williams being a decent midfield or better team this year, rather than the horrorshow better than Caterham/Marussia effort of 2013.

Hamilton-Rosberg are evenly matched in both speed imo and their cost (Roughly).

RBR. Vettel is obviously very expensive. Given the way the car is at the moment, it is hard to justify putting all your eggs in one basket and that is almost the case due to Vettel costing almost 80% of the maximum budget. RIC has yet to perform at the top too. 199 points fo

McLaren - Button and Perez were reasonably similar in scoring. For this year, while Magnussen looks to be pretty good in an F1 car, I'd rather spend a little extra and take a guy who is more of a known in terms of performance - Jenny B.

Done.
But I am damn sure that same team has been picked by at least 2 people since the choices are limited.
Edit: If there are minimum of 20 entries, then the chances of a unique picks from anyone is very remote.

Yup that's correct.

Minchy, yup got it.

TheDamus, I've got your latest picks and they are legal :)

mac_d, you'd be surprised how many people are picking Alonso though, I suppose even if they're expensive if you expect them to make the points back then its worth a punt.

robins13, no one has picked your selection btw :). If you think about it there is roughly 3^11 combinations possible, that's 117000 different combinations. Not sure how many are legal combinations though...

iAltair, your picks cost more than 500, you'll have to drop a few drivers to get it below 500. Currently your spend is 974.

Can the following entrants please revise your selections as you exceed the 500pt budget:
iAltair Vettel Rosberg Raikkonen Grosjean Button Hulkenburg Gutierrez Kyvat Bottas Bianchi Kobayashi Total Cost 974
VDV23 None Hamilton Alonso None Magnussen Hulkenburg Gutierrez None Bottas None Kobayashi Total Cost544
ankitbhandari13 Ricciardo Hamilton Alonso Grosjean Button Hulkenburg Sutil Vergne Massa Bianchi Kobayashi Total Cost 962
Jenson's Understeer None Hamilton Raikkonen None Button Hulkenburg Sutil Vergne Massa Bianchi Kobayashi Total Cost 501
conork17 Ricciardo Rosberg Alonso Grosjean Magnussen Hulkenburg Gutierrez Vergne Massa Bianchi Kobayashi Total Cost 875
DUI None Rosberg Raikkonen Grosjean Magnussen Perez Sutil Vergne Massa Chilton Ericsson Total Cost 572

Yeah just re-enter with your username and I'll get your updated picks.

Annoying how no more people are joining since this was moved off the main page :(

The Motorsport and Games forum gets nowhere near the footfall of the main page. I'm worried the Pick 10 competition will also suffer. Worth asking the mods in the feedback thread to post it on the main page until Melbourne. Edit: Just read the feedback thread.

I will be entering this but I wanted to wait until the end of the final test to see if the Renault teams made an improvement... looks like I shouldn't have bothered!
