Well, it's that time of the year again. Formula 1's new regulations are in place and the teams have been working hard all winter to prepare for 2014. With Australia just around the corner, it's time for the PF1 Top Three Championship 2014 to get ready. Here's the rules from last year that remain in place, but please make yourselves aware of the new deadline:

CarlPotter wrote:

The scoring works like this:

You pick your predicted podium. For example, 1st: Vettel, 2nd: Hamilton, 3rd: Alonso.

1st Place Correct: 5 Points
2nd Place Correct: 3 Points
3rd Place Correct: 1 Point

All Three Correct: 5 Bonus Points

There are no points given out for having the correct drivers in the wrong order, so if you choose Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso, but it comes out Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton, then I'm afraid you score nothing.

The deadline to set your podium is 19:00pm UK Time on the Friday of each race weekend. This has changed from last season to allow extra time for everybody to see what happens in the first two practice sessions. Any changes, or additional entires made after that time will result in any points scored for that race being halved and they will be ineligible for any bonus points. Additionally, any new entries made after 19:00pm UK Time on the Friday of each race weekend will not count.

If I haven't made a note of your initial entry, and it is edited after 19:00pm on the Friday, then your entry will not count. As a general rule, I will update my entry list on a daily basis, before taking down the final entries at 19:00pm UK Time on the Friday of each race weekend. I will then check for additional entries and changes up until 20:00pm UK Time on the Friday and anything changed after that will not count, but this is not a definitive guide and you make changes after these times at your own risk.

You can only pick a driver once for any of the three positions. So you can't have Vettel, Vettel, Vettel.

At the end of the season, if there is a draw, the winner will be decided by whoever has achieved a "Perfect Prediction" the most number of times. A Perfect Prediction is, of course, getting all three correct. If that is equal, then it will come down to most rounds won and if that is equal, then the winner will be decided by the number of 1st Places correct, then 2nd, then 3rd... If it's still tied after that, then it will be declared a draw and the Championship will be shared.

PF1 Top Three Constructors' Championship:

Singles Championship entrants are not required to enter if they do not want to. All entrants to this Championship are subject to the regular Championship rules. There are some additional rules, however:

1. Team-mates may not post on each other's behalf. Each individual must post their own predictions and any posts submitted by their team-mate will not be accepted, unless an entrant has given sufficient warning on the forum that they will be unable to post their prediction. “Sufficient warning” is down to my discretion, but generally will mean at least 3-4 days before the race.
2. Once a team is entered, the members are locked, unless one member misses 3 races in a row and the remaining member submits a request to me by private message to replace the missing member. Teams may change members freely up until the entry deadline for the first GP in Australia.
3. Team-mates may discuss their selections freely, either through PM or on the main Top Three thread, to maximise their points-scoring chances. “Team orders” are fully encouraged; especially towards the end of the season if one member is unlikely to win the singles Championship, but the Constructors' Championship is still to play for!
4. Teams may be entered at any stage of the season, but will begin on 0 points. For example, if the first and second-placed entrants in the Regular Championship were not in a team and entered with 2 races to go, they would have 0 points. This is to prevent any pairing from "stealing" the Championship in the closing stages.
5. Individuals are restricted to being in one team only.

Additional rules may be enforced if the spirit of the game is compromised.

Good luck everyone!

I like the constructors idea but how would you choose teams?

It would likely work on the basis of two entrants getting in touch with each other and forming a team themselves, then submitting it on here. I'm open to other ideas, though; putting everyone's name in a hat is another option, though personally I prefer people forming their own teams - hopefully it would encourage some of the board members to get in touch with other users that might not necessarily play the game at the moment and get more people involved, but obviously you could choose whoever you like.

Looking forward to this - I like the team-mates idea too... I'm open to offers but will only consider a Mercedes-engine drive

That could be an idea. We put up the standard F1 teams and place people similar to the way they did the driver numbers. Those making their own 2 man teamss get freedom of choice as far as team names are concerned.

My choices would probably be:

Force India
Ferrari
Caterham

For personalized team names I call dibs on "Red Sheep Racing".

Looking forward to the new season! Not as convinced as some on the Merc domination factor after this weeks test, IMO come 2 races in we may find RBR right back at the top and with the silly double points scenario 2 races means very little!

I agree, especially since they are great at development throughout the year. I still think Ferrari will be the strongest of the pack come the start of the season. Merc looked strong during testing every year up to now but when the chips were down they couldn't really cut it during the race. I think Merc domination is just wishful thinking. I hope and wish it will be a tight season this year and may the winner take the spoils as long as there is a podium for Hulkenberg in there somewhere.

My tips for Melbourne are:

Raikkonen
Rosberg
Alonso

I agree, it will be an interesting season, especially in the first three or four races. Should make predicting the top three a difficult challenge!

So, the "constructors' championship" idea seems to be pretty popular... Feel free to form your teams and just announce them on here. I'll draw up the rules over the next couple of days regarding how it will work.

I should probably clarify that you can enter the regular Championship and opt out of the team championship if you wish.

I won't be though: I'm looking for a team-mate!

Please take time to read the updated rules on the first post, which include the rules for the Constructors' Championship.

If you have any suggestions on how to make it better, please feel free to share them.

Team "Force Indian Takeaway" are looking for a competent driver to partner coulthards chin.

coulthards chin showed promise in his first season of the Top Three championship, however was at times a little wayward and reckless. It is hoped that by having a competent and consistent team mate the team can push forward and challenge for both titles.

We have a strict equal driver status policy. However our drivers are expected to fulfil commercial commitments such as delivering take-away on a Friday night.

Applicants are invited to reply to this message, stating their level of experience and their favourite Indian food

I suppose I should look for a potential teammate, right? I mean, I completely intend to outscore every team on my own, but if somebody wants to partner up and simply annihilate the rest of the field, well, who am I to say no?!

Interested in driving for Force Indian Takeaway? I know Indian Food isn't especially popular in North America but we do pay generously in onion bhajis.

I've heard good things about the Force Indian Takeaway wind tunnel, so you know what? You've got yourself a deal.

Excellent news!

Should have no problems with understeer either, although sometimes the behaviour at the rear end is a little bit unpredictable!

1. Massa?
2. Button?
3. Rosberg?

The author reserves the right to backtrack immensely post FP2!

Best of luck to everyone with the new season

robins13 I dropped you a PM yesterday, I asked Neutrality if he was interested last week as he had asked about me in the thread & he got back to me earlier today saying he was, should have posted it in here too really. Perhaps you and dizlexik should team up?

So yeah Carl you can add myself & Neutrality to the team list, I will let you know the team name soon.

Excellent, 3 teams and a few new face - welcome to you all!

I agree, robins13 and dizlexik should form a fourth team, but of course it's up to you. We currently have 6 players that are not in any teams:

robins13
dizlexik
pubpokerplayer
Icemanjee1
cm97
jimmyj

So potentially there are 3 more teams to add...

2. Sebastian Vettel
3. Nico Rosberg

Excellent, this Constructors idea is really catching on! Looks like a 4th team if Bentrovato and dizlexik team up, so at least there will be a fight for the top 3 and hopefully we'll get some more teams before Australia!

I will team up with someone if anyone would like to. I have hesitated just because I worry about coordinating with someone else and I'd not want to let somebody down.
