With the right car Monaco can be fun but in the Sauber it wasn’t for me atleast. Imo Your setup at Monaco has to be more oversteer to get the most out of the controller (Uday & I both play on PS4 with controllers)

What car are you using and what setup (custom or default) ???

The Monaco track in F1 2018 is more easier but still a pain. I'm in my 2nd year in career with Sauber & Monaco was the only track I didn't want to finish (even though I'm just doing 25% races). Going through the programmes is also a nightmare. In the race, I purposely crashed my car to get over with it.

In Monaco & Singapore, I usually prefer bringing the ballast ahead. I've always used custom setups but have heard in this year's game, the default setups are also good.

@JN23 - For the hairpin, I remember in the F1 2017 game where the issue was a BIG deal, players suggested to change the calibration settings of the controller (saturation etc.). I did that & could make the turn. In F1 2018, I kept the same settings & have no issue in turning.

Cheers both for your responses. I'm driving a Force India and use the five default setups the game provides.

I also had that problem on F1 2017... I'll see how it goes when I get back to Monaco in season 2. I'm also just incredibly slow there but I think that's on me haha

I'll have a go at both of your ideas of making the car more oversteer and bringing the ballast forward.

Just raced at Monza and I had managed to get myself up to second at the start from fifth on the grid. I was behind Vettel but ahead of Hamilton, Raikkonen and Bottas. I remained in P2 due to a tyre advantage until the first stops but had fallen about 10 seconds behind Vettel. Around this time Verstappen encountered a mechanical problem which meant he started doing laps around 4:30 whilst still being on the racing line. This meant that you would lap Verstappen about 3 times for every lap he did. One weird thing was that the group behind me all significantly slowed everytime the encountered him around the Parabolica and lost 3/4 seconds.

All this meant what I was expecting to be a tough second stint with everyone on medium tyres led to me finishing P2 with a 20+ second lead over the pack behind.

You'll be amazed at how the AI behave! If there's a car that's spun or crashed & is on the racing line, the AI won't stop & just crash into it. Overall, I love the game but found F1 2017 a tad more easier to understand & appreciate. The career model in F1 2018 is a bit too confusing at times when compared to the 2018 version but that's ok.

Some really interesting stuff here. Looks like F2 and some form of driver transfer (At least from F2 to F1) are, if not confirmed, then very, very likely to feature in next year's game.

Modders have found code relating to 2019 F1 and F2 cars in the game files. Including all of the current F2 drivers names and the F2 format. There's also a really interesting bit of dialogue with Claire the press lady where one of your response options mentions that your happy that you will be able to continue your rivalry with a driver from F2 in F1, so it appears that it isn't just you who will progress, does this also indicate driver transfers between F1 teams?

Another thing found was some text explaining that you will be able to customise your car livery for online races by spending "competition points" earned through multiplayer.

There's some suggestion that since these are in this year's game file they could be intending to release F1 2019 as a DLC for this year's game rather than a full game release. That seems a bit odd to me but perhaps if they wanted to start releasing the games earlier in the season they may need to do this for the first year in order to move the window forward, and could then release a new game closer to the beginning of the season from 2020 onwards.

Thanks for sharing that, some really interesting stuff. I'd like to see F2 bought into the game.

I always heard that licensing was an issue with driver moves - i.e. I imagine Merc don't particularly want Hamilton to be driving for someone else etc, so maybe they've got a way around that. And if they want to start releasing near the beginning of the season then they either have to DLC or just skip a year to make it possible.

I’ve actually spoken to code masters recently and one of the questions I asked was why isn’t the game released along side it’s real life counter part so the fans have the ability to play a full season of events.

There reply

“Due to the secretive nature of the sport and how late information about the cars, new technology, tracks,... it is impossible to release the game at the start of the season.”

The bit about tracks is weird. F1 2010 was released before we reached Korea for the first time and the same for India the following season if I remember correctly. It may have happened since too.

Finally got back into my career mode, and I've started experimenting with finding the right difficulty. I did Paul Ricard, and I'm up to qualifying in Austria.

For the French GP, I used 105%, a fairly modest increase from my prior 101%. It's a track I'd never driven on before so I didn't really know how quick I'd be: for this GP I qualified a tenth or so ahead of Charles, but I stuffed up a second run in Q3 that would have been 6 tenths up. Finished about half a minute ahead.

For the Austrian GP I decided to go big and bumped it up all the way to 110%. I immediately noticed that practice programs were tougher: I had to actually drive pretty well with my old components to complete them, and I actually failed to go purple on tyre wear. In Q1 and Q2 I trailed Charles (I needed two laps to get out of Q2). In Q3 I managed to pull out a good banker lap to go P6 with Charles right behind; I improved on my final run but so did he, and we ended up with me 2.5 tenths ahead on what felt like a really good lap.

We'll see how it goes in the race, but it seems like I'm going to have my work cut out for me on this setting... 8)

Post-race report: First 100% race against 110% AI

After having to wring the neck of the car in qualifying to beat Leclerc by 2 tenths, I ended up having a relatively easy time of it in the race. Leclerc and I both overtook Max off the start, while Vettel did something stupid at the first corner (who says Codemasters games aren't realistic?) and dropped between us.

The rest of my race was spent frantically defending from Vettel and trying to keep in touch with Kimi ahead. Over the course of the first stint I gradually lost touch with Kimi, but pitted with Vettel still behind me. He was on a different strategy, so I didn't see him again until the start of my third and final stint when he again appeared behind me on much fresher tyres. I tried to hold him off, and had some decent wheel-to-wheel battles along the way, but it was hopeless and he got past.

In the end Vettel finished about 10 seconds ahead, Magnussen was about 10 seconds behind, and Leclerc was 38 seconds behind. I used a few flashbacks to save myself from particularly stupid incidents, but I did carry a yellow left-front wing for almost the entire race after running into the back of Perez under braking.

My conclusion is that either the AI are a lot slower in the race, or I'm a relatively terrible qualifier. Or maybe both...

Ok so I've done Spain and Monaco now. Spain finished 12th, was competative with Magnussen and Ocon but they just blew past me on the main straight every time I managed to get past them. Even with overtake/rich I was a sitting duck, I'm focusing heavily on engine in my development but with how far behind the others I am in straight line speed I'm thinking I might bail and go to another team ASAP, it's just not fun atm for me.

Monaco I DNF'd because my gearbox damaged meaning it had a mind of its own, I'd click to downshift maybe 5 times and it would upshift once.

Right time for a mini rant after Monaco. I get it Codemasters, the radio cuts out when you're in the tunnel, nice touch, very clever. Now for the love of Jim Clark stop playing 80% of the radio messages from the engineer just before entering the tunnel! It's so obvious that it's done deliberately so you'll say "oh isn't that clever of them". Well no, it isn't, because my engineer would have access to a track map showing where I am and not give me messages when I'm about to go into the damn tunnel FFS.

Admittedly I DNF'd on lap two in Monaco, but I didn't get any messages in the tunnel. Sounds quite annoying, however.

Patch 1.13 released on PC & will be released on other platforms soon. Following issues have been addressed:

Build 1.13 Release Notes:
- Added option to disable tyre carcass temperature – the Tyre Temperature option can be found in Gameplay Settings and there are two choices: ‘Surface & Carcass (Simulation)’, which is the setting that 2018 has used up to this point, and the alternative ‘Surface Only’ option.
- Fixed an issue where online stats would fail to update correctly. If your stats fail to update after this patch, please let us know in the Discussion thread, please be sure to include the platform you are on and which stats are not updating for you.
- Improved times generated when a session is fast forwarded or Flying Lap / Return To Garage are used (i.e. time is skipped / accelerated). This will prevent times being generated that are around a second a lap too quick on the higher difficulty settings.
Increased frequency of safety car deployment for multiplayer.
- Fixed issue where teams would value showmanship and sportsmanship incorrectly in contract negotiations.
- Fixed an issue where the safety car could incorrectly come out after using a flashback.
- Fixed an issue in online sessions where players would occasionally load into the incorrect track.
- Fixed an issue where certain PCs would use the incorrect audio update rate.
- Fixed an issue in the UDP telemetry output where the PlayerIndex value would change to the incorrect player when entering spectator mode.
- Fixed a bug that meant players could be given a speeding in the pit lane penalty even if they were below the speed limit and had the limiter on when they crossed the limiter line.
- Fixed a bug that meant the AI would sometimes not go out to do a second hot lap in Qualifying.
Safety car improvements when picking up the lead car when they are close to backmarkers.
- Fixed a bug that caused AI cars to be teleported back to the pit lane when loading a mid session save created in the garage while the player is in the garage. This could cause the AI to set very short sector times.

I've had this bug twice. I'm looking forward to seeing the end of it. x(

One thing I'd also really like to see is some fix for my wheel FFB glitch, but it seems to be a problem most people don't have so I'm not too optimistic. Hopefully when I upgrade to direct drive at the end of the year it will go away anyway! 8)

Me too! It has put me off the game but I'll happily play again now if it's fixed!

Friends where do You refer for race setups? Typically, it would be f1carsetup dot com where You can find as much as 15 individual setups for a single track. but it's not practical to try all before finalizing on one. It may still be none matches Your driving style.

Hence, I recommend realsport101 dot com. They have a single setup per track & I tried their Spain & Hungary setups & I was able to drive much better. Kindly have a look there if You wish.

I use time trial setups in the race, and it hasn't caused me any problems so far. There's a few AOR drivers I know have a similar driving style to me, and I just head to the top of the leaderboard and mercilessly crib their setups before I head into a GP weekend: for F1 2017 I always used TheFlyingFinn08's setup, but for 2018 I've been using either NLR_Evo or NzL Ryan. Back when I was on the PC, I used to painfully figure out my own setups, but I think this way gets me better results with less word. :D

For me personally, a setup needs to be good at one thing: eliminating understeer and getting me the bite on turn-in I need. If I can get the sort of turn-in feel I need, I can drive the car quickly. If I can't, I become like Jenson Button and just complain about understeer throughout the whole weekend.

For some reason I enjoyed the career mode of F1 2017 more. In F1 2018, within 2 years, literally all the upgrades can be bought. I wonder how will the remaining 8 years (of the career) be like with almost no upgrades to apply. We need to buy the upgrades in wholesale or in a hurried fashion as all the teams do the same. In the 2017 version, it was slow but gradual & felt nice as the cr slowly but surely progressed.

Anyway, I'm bored of the game so am reverting to my all time favourite Gran Turismo 6. I'm switching off PS4 to go back to PS3. Didn't buy GT Sport as I always prefer offline or single player mode. GT 6 has too many elements which can keep me enthralled when compared to F1 2018 which just had career, Time Trials & Events to keep me glued but not enough.

Do you ever have a race weekend where you're just unaccountably terrible compared to your normal level?

That just happened to me in the British GP. Coming off of a high in Austria where I beat both Red Bulls and was fighting with the Ferraris, I came into Silverstone and was instantly struggling for grip, understeering in low speed corners and spinning out at high speed. I tried changing the setup, but it didn't help. In the end I qualified P20 and crashed on lap 3 while trying to overtake P19. It was the worst weekend I've ever had on an F1 game, and I'm honestly quite puzzled by where all my pace went.

I know this is about 2018 but is there any way to get a lobby on multiplayer for 2017 with no collision damage? Of the 16 races I've attempted online I've been taken out of the race completely about 9 times on the 1st corner by what I can only assume are virgins.

If not then why on earth did they mess with the multiplayer system and does 2018 follow suit or is back to like 2016 where you can actually search what you're looking to play online instead of this "what kind of length race" rubbish I have to pick, just so I know whether to save myself the bother of buying something I can't even play online.
