Drivers were Jackie Stewart and then Vic Elford. Convincing them was not the problem, the car getting most of the pole positions, being much faster than the competition... But it broke down before the finish line more often than once. And was banned for the next Can-Am season (1971) because the competition complained, fearing it would wipe the floor with them after the teething problems were fixed.

Jim Hall was interested in designing "efficient" cars. Sure he was not Pininfarina.
My favourite is the 2 F (alas, it wore numbers 1, or 7 or 15), which was the "beautiful" one. If you want to see another radical design, search for Chaparral 2H...

I've been dying to use this picture for ages, but there isn't a number in it. So today, I am arbitrarily deciding that if you look just closely enough, there is a #58. This is John Surtees on a Vincent Black Lightning motorcycle.

And me who was waiting the good numbers to post dozens of photos of Surtees, my hero, driving endurance and Can Am cars...

Pictures of Sir John are already on the roster. (both two and four wheels)
Here is one that could have been posted a few days ago.

Jimmyj,
That is an interesting picture. I am guessing that it is from at least the 1970s if not more recent. That "knee out" riding style was explored by Jarno Saarinen and perfected by Kenny Roberts in the early 1970s. Surtees would never have ridden like that during his days as a competitive GP motorcyclist.

Edit: Pic is of Surtees at 15 yrs. old riding his dad's Vincent Black Lightning. Probably hanging off trying not to ground the footpeg and exhaust system.

Here is a picture of his riding style from back in the day.

...and another

...and lastly Surtees being chased by a number of other riders. (Without his trademark helmet colors.)

Back before the 1970s everyone used that tucked in cornering style.

Excerpt from Kenny Roberts at Wikipedia: While Roberts had a natural talent for riding motorcycles on dirt surfaces, on paved road circuits, the motorcycle felt unsettled beneath him while negotiating a turn. During a race at the Ontario Motor Speedway, he observed Finnish rider Jarno Saarinen using a riding style where he shifted his body weight towards the inside of a turn. Roberts tried the technique and found that it helped settle the motorcycle. He adopted the cornering style and exaggerated the body shift to a greater extent than Saarinen had by extending his knee out until it skimmed the track surface. With his new riding technique, Roberts began to excel in road race events.

Jarno Saarinen's riding style.
